OOC

Hi, I'm Cass and thank you for looking at my funny giraffe. He's fucking stupid and I love him, your honor.I prefer to rp with people 25+ and anyone under 21 is a hard no. I can write in-game or in Discord and I'm comfortable with both, but in-game is primarily going to happen in CST evenings. I'm also comfortable with darker themes and I love a good horror setting, but I do draw a line at certain forms of injury and gore. If it ever comes to that for any reason, I will happily elaborate more on that.IC =/= OOC. What happens in character is not an inherent reflection of how I feel about you or your character.I do not wish to write with self-insert characters. We all put a piece of ourselves into a writing and that's completely normal. But if your character is just you plopped into Final Fantasy, you will have to find a writing partner who is not me.

While I don't mind lorebending, I do try to go relatively close to the book on lore compliance. That includes magic limitations, not being a warrior of light, having zero IC knowledge about any shards, etc.
Talk to me! If you have an idea for a plot or an interaction you're thinking about, throw it my way. I'm probably going to be very interested in it.
I enjoy writing a wide variety of rp types, including slice-of-life, horror, conflict, secret heresy, etc. So really and truly, throw any ideas at me you want.

Ser Estienne Symmonet Endalim de Lionnellais

GENERAL .
•   name:   He only goes by Estienne around non-military strangers and his family. Otherwise, he prefers to go by Ser Symmonet, Ser Lionnellais, or just Sym amongst his friends.
•   gender:   Male
•   age: 33
•   race:   Ishgardian Elezen
•   occupation:  Dragoon (Formerly).
He now works as a knight for the agricultural House Chastelaine. One of his primary duties is guarding the Lord Chastelaine's daughter, Amelie. This is easier said than done, as Amelie is a master of slipping away from both of her guards and escaping on her own to parts unknown.
PHYSICAL .
•   eyes :  His eyes are actually brown. But they're such a dark brown that they look pitch black unless you're staring directly into them under the right light. His eyes have been known to creep people out from time to time and he thinks it's pretty funny.
•   hair:    Red
•   height:   6 fulms, 9 ilms
•   build:   Muscular, well-built
•   clothing: He usually doesn't leave the house without some form of armor on. When he has on normal clothes, his limbs feel way too light and he feels oddly exposed. He's much happier in his armor.
Special Abilities
•   echo: Lie Detector: Symmonet can tell when he's being intentionally lied to, but it mostly manifests itself as that feeling of "something isn't quite right." He's also very good at ignoring his own intuition and the little voice in the back of his head that tells him something's wrong. Surely, he's simply overthinking it again, isn't he...?
•  fireball: Symmonet has always had an unusually high natural lean towards fire aether. For most of his life, this was not a problem and had no notable effect on him. While he was training with the dragoons, however, something about the
aetheric control training portion screwed up his natural aether flow. The end result was a borderline dangerous increase in fire that he now works constantly to keep under control. After years of practice, he's figured out how to transfer the fire to his attacks in battle as well as his own bare hands. He mostly uses that last one to light lamps and campfires when nobody's looking.

BACKGROUND.
•   birthplace :  The Pillars, Ishgard
•   current residence:   The house of Lord Chastelaine
•   pets:   Technically, none. But he adopted a very affectionate failed racing chocobo and that's kind of like a pet.
•   significant other:   None
•   children:   None and the idea of even having kids when he's so damn busy all the time makes him mildly distressed.
RELIGIOUS BELIEFS• religion: For all his life, he's followed the word of the Fury, fighting hard and achieving victory and glory in Her name. Recent days, however, have found his faith severely shaken and his reverence turned to ash and anger. To say he feels abandoned by Her is an understatement, to say the least.• beliefs: Currently, his beliefs are something along the lines of "If the Fury cares that damn much about what I choose to do with my new found path, she can tell me herself." He's going through his rebellious streak.• superstitions: If you cut a star sapphire in half and give the pieces to two people, they'll always find their way back to each other. He was told that as a child and he mostly thinks it's bullshit, but...you never know, right?FUN FACTS THAT MAY OR MAY NOT COME UP•This man is doing a whole ass heresy in secret. Heresy meaning "I am working to get my hands on literally anything that makes this make sense, church-approved or not. Don't tell his family.•He is very, very allergic to cats.•He /will/ cheat at cards if he thinks you'll forgive him if he gets caught.

Backstory

As a child, he was wild and mischievous, always wanting to play the hero. As an adult, he's strong and proud, always wanting to protect.Estienne, who prefers going by Symmonet to avoid being confused with his boss the Azure Dragoon, comes from a long line of proud knights and dragon slayers that started with a bastard son of House Dzmael. And over the course of a century, his family has certainly earned the respect in society to match such a heritage. Having been raised on stories of Halonic heroism and glory since he was a child, Symmonet has long been incredibly proud of his martial skills and his service to Ishgard. Amongst the many lessons that he learned from a young age, he was always taught that dying in the war against dragonkind was the most noble thing he could do and he was always prepared for the possibility of his death.Everything changed, however, when he made a mistake that saw his left eye lost to a dragon's spikes that tore straight through his helmet. The pain and shock threw him clean out of the sky, leaving him half-blind and badly injured. While he was recovering and adjusting to his new vision, the Dragonsong War came to an end and his services as a dragoon were no longer needed. In his shock and anger, he fell into a deep depression that spiraled into a full-blown crisis of faith and a lack of self as he saw his entire life's purpose ripped out from under him, the sacrifices of his himself and his kin rendered worthless. They had fought all this time to kill dragon and Dravanian alike, why were those same enemies being invited to break bread at their tables now? What the hell kind of peace even was this?Since then, he's found a position as a knight of the formerly agricultural House Chastelaine and works to find other ways to serve Ishgard and the people in it. All the while, he's still stumbling around and trying to find his footing and his purpose once more in strange new reality he's found himself in.

Hooks

Do You Need A Hand?
Symmonet is always happy to lend a hand to someone in need. Need something carried? Directions? He's on it. He probably won't help you run from a crime scene, however. You're on your own for that one. In fact, he might actually take you in himself.
The Knighthood
He comes from a family of knights and he trained to be a temple knight (and later a Dragoon) his entire life. Do you know each other or serve together? Are you friends? Rivals? Acquaintances who got into a really awkward situation and had to work together to get out of the awkward situation, bonding in the process?
On and Off Patrol
One can encounter him moving about Ishgard at most times of the day. He might be on an errand for Lord Chastelaine, he might be off the clock and aiding with rebuilding a fallen structure or even relaxing in the Forgotten Knight. He's always got time to chat, however.
Fight Fight Fight
If you're going out into Coerthas to hunt marks or remaining hostile entities, please take him with you. He wants to go so badly. His lance is going to rust damn it-
Throwing Stones
The unfortunate reality of post-war Ishgard is that tension is in the air and it isn't going anywhere. He's had to break up more than a few fights and block a few thrown objects while he's out and about in the city. Maybe you've run across each other during one of these altercations?

Rumors

  • "That name sounds familiar. Wasn't he one of the cook's heretics...? Why wasn't he brought before the Tribunal...?" --Confused Knight

  • "Aye, I've seen him about the city with a nobleman's daughter or two. Maybe even more than two, if my old eyes don't deceive me! No father in sight!" --Elderly Widow

  • "Was he the one who jumped on the damned aetheryte?" --Curmudgeonly Weaver

  • "....I saw him in the alleyway once, talking to the stranger with the hood. He didn't seem happy. Didn't know what to make of it." --Observant Artisan

The Lionnellais

[SER VALLERIN] - [SER YLOISE]
The Patriarch - The Auroch of Ishgard
------
Symmonet's parents met as knights and had a whirlwind romance that started with a rivalry to remember. Somewhere in the chaos of constantly trying to one-up each other, they ended up getting married and having five children and then continued trying to outdo each other.
Ser Vallerin is a warm, friendly man and an avid hunter who hates to back down from a challenge. Ser Yloise, meanwhile, has made a habit out of intimidating the houseguests to test if they're reaaaally worth of setting foot under this roof. There is no room for the weak in her home.

[SER VICTOR]
The Heir
------
Symmonet's oldest brother, Victor considers it his duty to take care of his family. Stubborn to a fault, he believes in tough love and his efforts to help and guide his siblings through their issues usually end up as more of a fight instead. He means well, but goes about it in the worst way possible. He also has a quick temper and can and will hold you against the wall by the throat if you say a single word about his half-elezen wife. He loves his wife and their son very much.

[EDOUARD]
The Gravedigger
------
Symmonet's next-oldest brother, Edouard is calm and gentle. Never able to stomach the demands of war, Edouard instead followed the path towards the church. Now he works in the branch that handles funeral rights and processing the dead, earning the nickname "gravedigger" amongst his siblings. The combination of stress and materials used for body preparation has aged him quite a bit.

[OCTAVIE]
Lady Gailenet
------
Octavie never wanted to be Lady Gailenet. In fact, she hates her husband more than she can say due to his loud, gregarious nature. She herself is very quiet and demands quiet all around her, to the point that her wing of the Gailenet halls tend to unnerve visitors to the house with its dead silence. The servants speak softy and tread lightly and one could hear a pin drop three rooms over. And that's just how she likes it. When she's not overstimulated from sound and a general dissatisfaction with life, she's actually quite friendly.

[ELVIDE]
Of Hammer and Stone
------
The youngest child, Elvide has grown quite tired of being constantly doted on and defended. The only member of the family who never excelled with a weapon in hand, she's instead chosen to turn her attention to her real true love—architecture. She wants to design and she wants to build. And the easiest way to do that was to simply pick up a hammer and join on at the Firmament for practical experience. Being bullied by other builders twice her age is all part of the experience, right? Right!
